The Championships were held on Sunday 14 June 2009 at the Harvey Hadden Sports Complex in Nottingham.  It was a superb day, fitting for  superb championships. There were over 350 competitors in the categories which promised to be an exciting event.  We were not disappointed with excellent performances from the competitors.

The event started only 5 minutes behind schedule with the kata categories. A welcome change this year was the separation of styles for cadets 15 - 17 years. There were many notable performances in the kata section and it was extremely heartwarming to see so many young people competing, clearly for the first time but demonstrating a level of maturity that  augers well for the future.

The revised arrangements for registering kumite only competitors at 1pm proved to be successful and popular.

The kumite categories were well contested and competitors performed creditably with professional behaviour from everyone.  This year Dudley Shukokai Karate  showed  year that they are the ones to beat with the Association taking many of the trophies.

The day ended well before the allotted time and many thanks go to the referees and officials who worked tirelessly throughout the day to make the event  such a success.
