FEKO CADETS AND SENIORS OPEN NATIONAL KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
Another excellent National Karate Championships were held on Sunday 20 September 2009 at the Harvey Hadden Sports Complex. With nearly 300 entries, the competition was guaranteed to contain some exciting events and we were not disappointed. The standard was high with superb kata and exciting kumite events. Two new events were introduced this year - the men’s over 35 kumite and the Team Rotation event. The over 35’s event, together with Shobu Ippon proved to be the most popular events from an entry perspective and showed that many experienced fighters want to continue competing at National level. The team rotation event was fast and furious with the unusually named SHEKO team taking the honours. There were notable performances from the FEKO squad members who represented FEKO at the World Championships and who clearly showed that they are a powerful force in National Competitions while once again Mandie Read’s Dudley Shukokai needed an extra space on their coach to carry the trophies they won of which 11 were gold! Many thanks go to the officials and stewards, without whom the day would be impossible to manage.
