CARLOW INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

10 – 11 OCTOBER 2009

This year, FEKO chose 8 young people to represent them at the Carlow International Championships.  The squad, led by the National Coach, Dr Josh Johnson was:

Ÿ
Amy Wright-Hamilton
Ÿ
Jodie Ritchie
Ÿ
Luke Thompson
Ÿ
Maddison Moore
Ÿ
David Bowater
Ÿ
Scott Reynolds
Ÿ
Chris Plant
Ÿ
Aaron Haywood

The first day of the competition was aimed at those under 14.  Chris Plant and Aaron Haywood gave creditable performances but narrowly missed out on placing in kata and kumite.  Maddison Moore showed that she is a force to be reckoned with by winning the Girl’s Individual Kumite event in impressive style.

On the second day, Scott Reynolds gave a superb performance in winning the Cadet Individual Kumite while Amy Wright-Hamilton and Jodie Ritchie fought through their rounds to take their places in the Cadet Girls Heavyweight final.  Amy came through this test to take gold while Jodie, although having to be content with silver medal, showed that she is steadily improving with every competition.

Luke Thompson, who like Jodie, had been selected for the first time for the FEKO squad, assisted the Cadet Team to secure a silver medal.

Throughout the competition, the squad represented FEKO in the most professional of manner and their performances auger extremely well for the future of FEKO at National and International level.

A quote from Dr Josh Johnson

“Well done squad, I know that your family, friends and your club coach are proud of your achievements.”
